Discovery Engine

Discovery vs. Search
Search is great when you know exactly what you are looking for and when you have the time to sort through a long list of results. However, search is not the best tool for finding relevant entertainment content.

"Discovery" trumps search when you're not exactly sure what content you're looking for, other than to be entertained. With discovery, relevant, targeted content is delivered to you as part of your online entertainment experience.

Tagging Content
There are three primary ways to target entertainment content:

  • Related Content: Finds people that have seen the same content you have seen and generates a list of content they also like. People who have seen this item have also seen these items.
  • Contextually Matched: Finds content that is similar to the content you have viewed. Items that are similar to this item, based upon a contextual match.
  • Socially Collaborative Filtering: Finds content that people in your network like. Items that my friends (or a related group) have seen, but that I have not.

Better Targeting
Some websites offer content they think a user would like by using related or contextually matched content. A better way to ensure more relevant content is to combine related and contextually matched content with Socially Collaborative Filtering, which relies on socially relevant gestures (SRGs) to tell how a user perceives content for a more reliable match.

Discovery, based on a combination of these targeting techniques, offers administrators the ability to:

  • Find new audiences
  • Keep people engaged
  • Create higher value-add opportunities

Discovery also offers consumers more relevant content, which yields a more personalized entertainment experience.
